For a long time I have tried and failed to get fit and lose the ever expanding stomach I have grown since graduating high school. Every time I get the motivation to start working out again I find an excuse to skip a day, then a week and then I am back on the couch with a bag of Munchos and a bottle of Newcastle.
My major problem, or so I have convinced myself, is that I lack a consistent partner to work out with. Someone who will motivate me on those "excuse days" and keep me on track. I know I know... if it were important to me I shouldn't need someone to motivate me. I admit it, I enjoy being lazy. I just hate the side effects like being severely winded running from my car to class, jiggling when I walk, and feeling just generally drained all the time.
That will all change. This is what I am telling myself now. I am going to push hard and get in better shape.
What changed? Over the last 4 weeks my mother has been in a Biggest Loser competition with a local "gym", Anchor Fitness. I say "gym" because it is more of a studio with just a few free weights and not your typical Bally super gym full of 15 million machines that exercise muscles you didn't know exist.
Back to my point, my mother has been in this competition for 4 weeks now and has shown some results that are quite impressive. During a conversation where she was telling me about her results, she conveniently neglected the process used to achieve these results, she mentioned that she would pay for me to do the 4 week special that is running. For 99 dollars I could do unlimited "Boot Camp" workouts in an effort to train for an upcoming 10 mile run. I agreed and am starting my first day today. Its raining but I was told to prepare to run. Wish me luck.
